You finally go on that bucket-list surf trip to that famous break everybody talks about. You paddle out far on a big day and get worked so hard your leash snaps. But instead of panicking, you remain calm and swim to shore safely- then grab another board to paddle back out.

What is your nervous system?

In simple terms, it's the control center for many bodily functions, including how you respond to stress. Someone with a ‘dysregulated’ nervous system is highly sensitive to stress, gets triggered easily- and is more likely to second guess themself and panic in challenging surf or during a wipeout.


What does your breath have to do with it?

Your breath is the only nervous system function that happens automatically and that you can directly control. It's like a remote control for your nervous system state: 

You can use your breath to either ENERGIZE you or CALM you down- whatever you most need for peak performance. 

With practice, your control of your breath- and your ability to handle stress and pressure- will improve both in and out of the water.

Breathing MECHANICS

Optimize your normal everyday breathing- the foundation for a lot of what we'll work on in DRIFT STATE. With better breathing, you'll also feel less stressed and more energized in your daily life.

Flow state

Learn simple ways to regulate your nervous system and get into flow state more often when surfing- and in life!

See what's blocking you

You'll be guided on multiple somatic breathwork journeys to uncover what's truly holding you back in your surfing and connect to your inner strength.

In-The-Moment tools

Learn to use your breath and body awareness to elevate performance both before and during a surf session.

Boost breathholds & Endurance 

Practice advanced techniques for increasing your body's CO2 tolerance so that you can paddle stronger and weather hold-downs more effectively.

DRIFT STATE is a collective group experience, not just a series of standalone classes. Each session will build upon the next. We'll share relevant resources to help you implement what you're learning, and between sessions, we'll all stay connected through WhatsApp, to share wins, challenges, and questions.

FAQs

I'M STILL A BEGINNER. WILL THIS WORK FOR ME?

YES. To improve as a surfer, you still need to get in your reps and surf as much as possible. But, greater control of your nervous system, your mindset, and your energy will help you progress faster, by giving you the confidence and mental composure to push past your fears in the water- whether it's a fear of bigger waves or crowded breaks.

 

I'VE BEEN SURFING FOR YEARS. WHAT CAN DRIFT STATE DO FOR ME?

Are you interested in achieving peak performance? Want to compete? Do you know your edge and want to move past it? Do you want to get into flow state more often - where you're surfing and time and space seem to disappear? 

Mindset can either propel you forward or keep you stuck in place with any of those goals. In DRIFT STATE, you'll be learning the same skills pro surfers use to control their mindset and reach peak performance.

 

IS THIS A BUNCH OF MEDITATION AND ‘WOO WOO’ STUFF? 

100% NO. You will learn evidence-based breathwork and somatic tools based in neuroscience. Some weeks you will experience a Somatic Breathwork session. This will NOT feel like meditation but you will reap many of the benefits of meditation like improved clarity, focus, and ability to maintain a sense of calm and control under pressure. 

 

DO I NEED TO BE IN TOP SURFING SHAPE TO BENEFIT FROM DRIFT STATE?

NO. Breathwork and techniques to regulate the nervous system can be beneficial to anyone and will support you in both surfing and life! That said, if you want to really improve your surfing, you'll also want to focus on physical fitness (training and nutrition) and getting in the water as much as possible. 

 

ARE THERE ANY SAFETY CONCERNS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?

Everything we teach in DRIFT STATE is safe for healthy adults (18+). However, some breathing practices will need to be modified if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, a seizure disorder, retinal detachment, or PTSD. WHAT HAPPENS IF A HUGE SWELL HITS WHEN WE HAVE CLASS?!

Obviously we are always praying for waves! But we also need to respect everyone's schedules and commitment to this program. If or when a hurricane swell hits, we'll poll the group to see if we need to shift our meeting that week.

This is the first time we're running this program, and to thank this group for taking a chance on something new, we're offering it at a special $297 founding member rate. This price will not be offered again.

To ensure a full commitment and allow us to plan properly, payment is required at sign-up and is non-refundable.

We will meet every Thursday for six weeks, 6:30pm-8pm, July 2 through August 6. In between sessions, we'll stay connected through a WhatsApp group to share wins, answer questions, and hold each other accountable to our action steps. You'll also receive resources such as handouts and videos to help you implement what you're learning.
